Geese - 3D Country (2022)
This record is from Geese, not to be confused with their
contemporary, Goose. Having heard both though, I must say I prefer the former
quite a bit! I’m sure that’s at least partially due to jam bands not exactly
being my thing, even though our friends over at Pitchfork said that the group “evolves from its gritty post-punk
origins into a proudly outrageous jam band.” I profoundly disagree with that
statement, for one I still hear a LOT of post-punk in this album and for two I’m
not calling them a jam band unless they ask for it. The grim lyrics on this
album don’t particularly match the happier tunes, which is something I really
enjoy and that I feel can spark more conversation than lyrics and music meshing
completely. To circle back to the jam band allegation, there is definitely some
jamming in here, but it’s not on Phish levels (thank god above).
Highlight: “Cowboy Nudes” – Get your mind out of the gutter….This
is a fun and upbeat track that will stick with you all day after hearing it (♫chikki-chikki-cha).
