Neil Young - Harvest (1972)
10/10 ★★★★★★★★★★
In honor of Neil Young's return to Spotify, I wanted to give a listen to my favorite record of his. This is a perfect album in my opinion. It's a bit funny looking into the history of this record, it was well-received but a lot of folks thought it wasn't as good as his earlier work and that he was retreading old ground, in more recent years it has gotten overwhelmingly positive reviews, and I'm adding to it. I love alt-country, folk, and Americana music all 3 of which Young has had a powerful impact on. I'm still bummed I didn't get to see him live at Farm Aid 2022, but alas, the records live on!
Highlight: Old Man - I think most of us think of a father figure or grandfather when we hear this beautifully bittersweet track, what a whiplash experience to learn he just wrote this about his neighbor after buying some land. Origins aside, this will always pull my heart strings and make me think of my Papaws (Appalachian for grandpa), and is one of my favorite songs of all time.
