Camberwell Now - The Ghost Trade (1986)
3/10 ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Camberwell Now was an 80's avant-garde prog band founded by two former members of This Heat. Let me just get it out of the way and face the oncoming criticism. I don't like prog rock. Yeah, there's a handful of Rush songs I like and maybe as I continue this journey that will change, but as of March 2024 I don't like prog rock. Due to that, I feel like I can hardly give this record a fair rating, but this isn't Pitchfork, this is my blog about my tastes. The last track on this record is its namesake, The Ghost Trade, it comes in at 11 minutes of head-scratching jazz-esque rhythm and for me was the final nail in the coffin of any attempt of me enjoying this.
Highlight: Working Night - I actually enjoyed the first track of this record, and it falsely led me to believe I may enjoy the whole thing. Regardlessly, Working Night is definitely worth a listen and made me feel like I was really opening my mind before the final track slammed it shut.
